Jun 27, Sat: Benton MacKaye Trail, Mud Gap to North River Road, Distance about 3.5 miles, rated easy. Dave Bennie, 865-254-0200, davealinda@yahoo.com or Johanna Cooley, 423-442-3643. Meet at the old Wal-Mart at 8 am. This is a high elevation, mostly shaded trail. Weather should be pleasant at this elevation.

Jul 7, Tue: Bote Mountain and West Prong
Trails - Great Smoky Mtns NP - Tremont Area. Distance 4 miles. Rated easy.

Wal-Mart at 8 am or meet Dave at 9:20 at the Old Schoolhouse Gap trailhead
parking area. The first mile of the trail is sunny but the rest of the trail is
shaded. Lunch is by a cool creek.
Jul 18, Sat: Hemlock Creek - North River Road Area. Distance about 3.5
miles, rated easy but requires "water shoes" for many easy creek fordings.
Contact Faye at 442-6288. Meet at the old
Wal-Mart at 8 am. Alternate hike if the creek is high: Mud Gap to Whigg Meadows,
4 miles. The Hemlock Creek Trail is a shaded deep, narrow valley with cooling by the creek.
Good for a hot day.
Sat, Jul 18 -
Farr Gap to the
beaches of Chilhowee Lake via Tallassee Mountain.

Sat, Aug 15 - Sinking Creek Trail. This is an in-and-out hike and can be any length up to 8 miles round trip. It is part of the East Lake Shore hiking area. We will meet at the old Walmart parking lot at 9:00 a.m. Contact Johanna at 442-3643.
Wed, Aug 19 - Rabbit Creek Trail. This trailhead is
near the Happy Valley Ranger Station. Contact Gail Henley at 442-3400. We will
meet at the old Walmart parking lot at 8:00 a.m.

Mon., Sept. 7 - Fort Loudoun Historic Area. Meet at
the old Walmart parking at 8:00 am or the trailhead at 8:30 am. Contact Faye at

Sat., Sept. 12 - Whigg Meadow from Mud Gap. We will walk on the Benton
MacKaye Trail 3.0 miles RT. If the weather cooperates, the view from Whigg
Meadow is outstanding. Dave Bennie leads the trip. Meet at the old Walmart
parking at 8:00 am. Contact Faye at 442-6288.
Tues., Sept. 22 - LESSER SEEN GEMS OF CADES COVE. In a total walk of 3.4
miles we will see three diverse sights: A cascade, a cave and a log home. Our
first hike will be to the cascades of Crooked Arm Branch (1.4 miles RT). Then we
walk to Gregory Cave, (1.0 mile RT). The third walk is to the Elijah Oliver log
cabin (1.0 mile RT). Dave Bennie is the leader. Meet Faye at 8:00 a.m. at the
old Walmart parking lot or meet Dave at 9:00 am at the Townsend Vistors Center.
